The Palestinian cabinet held an emergency session today to discuss and face the recent developments that resulted from Israel's war on Gaza and decided on austerity measures to face these challenges. Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, speaking at the start of the meeting, welcomed the truce agreement that was reached under Egyptian and Qatari sponsorship, calling for a complete halt to the aggression against the Gaza Strip. The cabinet decided to adopt austerity measures regarding travel and any expenses that could be saved to confront the financial crisis caused by Israel withholding the Palestinian tax revenues, which also prompted the government to declare an emergency budget. It also allowed each ministry to decide how to run its work in light of the employees not being paid their salaries. It decided to reconsider the agreements signed with donor countries and reorient them according to new priorities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Source: Palestine news and Information Agency – WAFA
