Amman: Chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maaytah, on Thursday inaugurated the Second Jordan Parliamentary Life Model Conference, which was held by German Jordanian University (GJU), in cooperation with the commission's (I Participate) programme. According to an IEC statement, Maaytah stressed the importance of youth participation in the Kingdom's political modernization project, which expresses His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision, indicating that "only youth could identify their needs and build their desired future." Maayta said the Kingdom's recent constitutional amendments and the laws regulating political life gave youth a "greater" opportunity to engage in elections and parties, and become "a model for dialogue." For his part, GJU President Dr. Ala'aldeen Halhouli said the university has taken steps to strengthen the youth's role, who play a "main" role in Jordanian society, since launch of Jordan's political modernization system. Halhouli added that students' engagement in Jor dan's political activities would enhance their awareness of engagement in the decision-making process, better understand their "effective" role in society, and develop their leadership skills.
