PARIS, France witnessed on Saturday demonstrations against the right-wing political camp that had emerged victorious in the recent European parliamentary elections. The BFM news network reported that the protests against the right-wing party, the National Rally (previously the National Front), were held in the capital where thousands of activists marched from the Republic public square to the Nation plaza, in response to calls by left-wing unions. According to police estimates, more than 300,000 people demonstrated throughout the nation, including some 100,000 in Paris. Police also reported rallies throughout the country to protest the European parliamentary polls' results and the right-wing parties' prospected lead in snap elections that had been called by President Emmanuel Macron in the aftermath of the frustrating results -- for his party -- of the European polls. The Ministry of Interior meanwhile announced that some 21,000 officers and gendarmeries were mobilized to face the protests. Last Sunday, the nominee of the far-right National Rally (RN) Jordan Bardella grabbed up to 31.8 percent of the votes in the European elections, while the chairwoman of the president's party (Renaissance), Valerie Hayer, came second with only 15.2 percent of the ballots, followed by the chief of the Center-left (Place Publique) Public Place Party, Raphael Glucksmann. The snap legislative elections have been set between June 30 and July 7. Source: Kuwait News Agency
