Fidan to Blinken: The Israeli attack on Rafah is unacceptable

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan confirmed to his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, that the Israeli attack on the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, is "unacceptable." Fidan stressed during a phone call with Blinken today, Wednesday, according to a source in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the necessity of achieving a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible in Gaza, and of removing obstacles to the arrival of humanitarian aid to the region. The source indicated that the two sides discussed during the phone call the recent developments in Gaza and the situation in Ukraine. It is noteworthy that, for more than a week, Israel has continued to close the Rafah and Karam Abu Salem crossings to the crossing of humanitarian aid, which increased the disastrous conditions in the Gaza Strip, where about 2.3 million Palestinians live, including about two million displaced people. On the sixth of this month, the Israeli army began a ground attack on Rafah, which it claimed was 'limited in scope,' and the next day it took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing with Egypt. Israel continues its war on Gaza despite the issuance of a resolution by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and also despite the fact that the International Court of Justice asked it to take immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
