The Federal Intelligence and Investigation Agency announced today, Thursday, the arrest of two defendants in their possession of antiquities in the Najaf Governorate. It said in a statement, 'its specialized units for combating organized crime/Najaf continue their qualitative operations to preserve the cultural heritage, as they monitored information about the presence of two people in their possession of artifacts dating back to ancient Iraqi historical eras.' It added, "An intelligence team was immediately formed to arrest the two defendants in their possession of antiquities of various shapes and types, after obtaining the necessary judicial approvals." The statement continued that the defendants admitted during their investigation that they had traded in antiquities, and they were referred to the competent authorities to receive a fair penalty.
