The crisis in the Gaza Strip, caused by ongoing Israeli aggression, has reached a new breaking point, and the delivery of any meaningful humanitarian aid to the Strip has become almost impossible as the fabric of civil society there is being eroded, the European Union (EU) said. "Starving civilians in the Gaza Strip are now resorting to desperate measures to obtain the limited aid that is flowing in, while our partners are forced by the ongoing military operations and the breakdown of law and order in Gaza to operate in a very unsafe environment," said EU Crisis Management Commissioner Janez Lenarcic in a joint statement with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The latest updates from humanitarian organizations trying to deliver essential aid are so alarming that humanitarian operations are in danger of collapsing if no action is taken," the statement, which was quoted by the EU's Foreign Affairs Department on its official website, said. The EU again called on all parties concerned to abide by their international legal responsibilities, primarily to protect civilians and ensure their access to basic services, provide a safe environment for humanitarian operations and allow unhindered humanitarian access, and call for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees. It added that humanitarian aid is piling up on Gaza's borders, including large aid funded by the European Union, and that some of this aid, including food, is perishable and at risk of being wasted.
