Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Condemns Israeli Finance Minister’s Calls for West Bank Sovereignty.

Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Ministry has issued a strong condemnation of recent statements by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, which advocate for the imposition of Israeli sovereignty and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank. These actions are regarded as a direct violation of international law, international humanitarian law, relevant Security Council resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice concerning the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry released a statement describing these remarks as irresponsible and extremist. The statement further highlighted that such declarations from a member of the Israeli government clearly demonstrate a rejection of peace efforts in the region. It emphasized the absence of an Israeli partner willing to make bold decisions necessary for achieving peace and criticized the continued policy of arrogance. The ministry's statement und erscored that these extremist comments are in stark contradiction to the international community's stance, which advocates for ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt firmly rejected the statements, asserting that they exacerbate extremism and violence. It called for upholding international responsibility to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination, which it considers the only viable solution to resolving the conflict in the region.
