HE Deputy Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Raymond Mendoza affirmed that the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the Philippines represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Philippines, noting that this visit opens new horizons for parliamentary cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries. Speaking to Qatar News Agency , His Excellency explained that the Qatari Shura Council and the Philippine Parliament can play an important role in strengthening bilateral relations and opening official and popular channels of communication through parliamentary diplomacy, legislative initiatives, and community outreach, both institutions can enhance understanding and joint action, identify challenges, and examine common opportunities. He said this includes organizing the Philippines-Qatar Parliamentary Friendship Group, facilitating high-level parliamentary visits, organizing cultural exchanges, and promoting dialogue on issues of common interest. He added that through parliamentary dialogue and diplomacy, it is possible to strengthen common cultural ties and bring different viewpoints closer together in a way that reflects the aspirations and interests of the two countries. HE the Deputy Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives called for regional cooperation and coordination among Asian parliaments to find solutions and play a greater role in pressing issues, including climate change, conflicts, disasters, poverty, human rights, the ability to withstand disasters, and promoting peace and stability in the region, noting that through legislative initiatives, political dialogue and international partnerships it is possible to enhance the contribution of these parliaments. His Excellency said that Asian countries can coordinate their parliamentary positions in international forums, including through the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), to serve the interests of the peoples of Asia at various levels. The APA provides a platform for Asian parliamentarians to exchange views, share experiences, and coordinate their efforts on regional and global issues of common concern. He pointed out that by fostering dialogue and collaboration among member states, the APA can contribute to promoting peace, security, and development in the region, including advocating for the interests of Asian countries in international organizations and forums, strengthening regional cooperation mechanisms, and addressing shared challenges through collective action.
