Completion of Japan-funded project in Jalboun village in Jenin Governorate

RAMALLAH: Nakashima Yoichi, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, visited Jalboun village in Jenin governorate on Wednesday to celebrate the completion of a project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The Government of Japan extended a grant of $81,259 to Jalboun village council to construct two examination rooms, a nursing room, a waiting room, a storage room and two toilets at the Jalboun medical center, to meet the needs of the community, particularly for pregnant women and newborn babies, due to its limited space.

This expansion will enable timely and appropriate examinations and treatments, ultimately improving access to medical care for the village and its surrounding residents, said a press release published by the Representative Office of Japan to Palestine.

Once the project is complete, approximately 180 patients each month will visit the center instead of seeking care at other
medical facilities in Jenin city.

In his speech, Nakashima emphasized Japan’s firm commitment to supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993, the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $2.5 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority since 2010.
