The Ministry of Communications announced, today, Sunday, the approval of the transit project to link the Gulf countries to Iraq via Kuwait.
The Ministry stated in a statement that "the Opinion Board in the Ministry of Communications held its 130th session headed by Al-Yasiri, and the transit project linking the Gulf countries to Iraq via Kuwait was approved and referred to the General Company for Communications and Informatics to proceed with the contracting procedures.
It added, "The project includes investing in Iraq's geographical location by making it a link linking the Gulf countries and Southeast Asia with Europe through Iraq, after linking it by land with Kuwait by means of an optical cable, which enhances Iraq's regional and international status."
Al-Yasiri stressed that "the project will contribute to maximizing Iraq's revenues and stability on the security and economic levels by encouraging attracting international investments and making it a strong competitor in the global telecommunications market."
It indicated that "the transit capacity project is considered one of the strategic projects that are at the forefront of the Ministry's attention after being reluctant over the past years."/ End
