Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Women's Empowerment. During the meeting at the Prime Ministry on Tuesday, Bani Mustafa said the year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference of 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), which established a road map for periodic quinquennial reviews, in addition to the 10-year anniversary of its approval of 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, aimed to ensure gender equality. Bani Mustafa noted the committee will prepare a report on progress made in implementing BPfA vision at Jordan's level, in cooperation and partnership with the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW), United Nations Women Jordan, and ESCWA. Additionally, the minister added that this proces emphasizes importance of cooperation with the relevant authorities at all levels in preparation for the BPfA 2025 review to benefit from expertise in this field. In the same context, the JNCW Secretary-General, Maha Ali, said the committee will begin drafting Jordan's 6th Beijing report, within the framework of its traditional role to outline national reviews over the previous years, noting the committee is "keen" to involve all Jordan's sectors in this process. The report, she said, will provide a data-based comprehensive review of Jordan's related policies, strategies and legislation, which contributed to empower Jordanian women and enhance their role in various fields, within a mechanism approved by UN Women Jordan.
