The head of the Independent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi said on Monday his chairmanship, as the representative of the state of Kuwait, of the commission "comes in appreciation" of the OIC member states of Kuwait's role in boosting human rights. Al-Mutairi was speaking to KUNA after partaking in a senior-level meeting of the commission on "verdict of the International Court of Justice on Gaza," during a regular session, held at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah. Ambassador Al-Mutairi said he was honored to head "this senior-level event" that constituted an opportunity "to ponder deeply the next steps regarding the legal status of the Palestinian cause." The event, he continued, mirrored a sincere desire to pursue support for the Palestinian people, indicating that views expressed by international experts and other participants would be taken into consideration in preparing the reports "regarding the Palestinian case." Meanwhile, the per manent delegate of the State of Palestine at the UN Ambassador Riad Mansour praised the State of Kuwait's noble stands in backing the Palestinian cause. Ambassador Mansour, in a statement to KUNA, alluded to Kuwait's "spectacular role when it held a membership in the Security Council, steadily standing on the side of Palestine regarding various issues and against the barbaric Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories." The State of Kuwait plays an active role at the UN, he said, indicating that it has played a role in efforts that led to the Bamahas' recognition of the State of Palestine. Participants in the gathering rejected the tragic humanitarian conditions in Gaza, affirmed the necessity to enforce an immediate ceasefire, ensure secure dispatch of sufficient aid into the strip, rebuild the enclave and create a credible process for just and sustainable peace that enables the Palestinians to live in dignity. Moreover, they affirmed the necessity to capitalize on the historic ruling by the intern ational court on Gaza and employ it to exert maximum pressure on the Israeli occupation to coerce this entity into halting the unprecedented aggression on the Palestinian people.
