Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed Iraq's desire to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Development Program in three files that constitute a priority for the government within the framework of this cooperation, which are the climate change file and the draft electronic payment law.
The Prime Minister's media office stated that Al-Sudani met, in New York, this evening, Tuesday (Baghdad time), with the Director of the United Nations Development Programme /UNDP/, Achim Steiner, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly at its 78th session.
The Prime Minister affirmed Iraq's desire to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Development Program in three files that constitute a priority for the government within the framework of this cooperation, which are the climate change file and the draft electronic payment law, as well as the economic reform file, the file of combating corruption, and enhancing transparency in government institutions.
He also referred to cooperation plans with the United Nations program in the field of e-governance and the digital economy, indicating that these aspects will constitute a qualitative shift that will have positive effects on a number of challenges facing Iraq.
For his part, Steiner expressed the UN programme's readiness to provide assistance and technical cooperation in the three priorities that Al-Sudani spoke about, as it is hoped that those responsible for this program will hold a workshop on the electronic payment project in Baghdad this month.
He also stressed the support of Iraq in its plans to confront climate change and overcome the effects of drought, and implement reform projects and training programs to develop the capabilities of government institutions and restore stability to the liberated areas.
