A severe heat wave kills 15 people in India in 24 hours

At least 15 people were killed due to a severe heat wave that hit the states of Bihar and Odisha in eastern India. Indian authorities reported that 10 people died in the Rourkela district of Odisha state, while 5 deaths were reported in the city of Aurangabad in Bihar state due to "heat stroke" in the past 24 hours. The local government in Odisha bans any outdoor activities between 11 am and 3 pm when temperatures peak. In the capital, New Delhi, the temperature is expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius today as the city recorded its first heat-related death this week and faces severe water shortages. Although temperatures are expected to cool in northwest and central India in the coming days, the current heat wave in the east of the country is likely to continue for two days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
