A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Taiwan today, Thursday, without any reports of human or material losses. The Taiwan Meteorological Administration reported in a statement that the earthquake occurred off the coast of Yilan County, northeast of the island, noting that it was at a depth of nine kilometers. It stated that the earthquake caused buildings to shake in the capital, Taipei, without local authorities revealing the extent of its damage so far. Another earthquake struck in May in the waters near Hualien County, without any casualties. The most violent earthquake to hit Taiwan was in 1999, when more than two thousand people were killed after the ground moved under them with a magnitude of 7.6. Source: National Iraqi News Agency
