Mauritanian Coast Guard forces were able to recover 25 bodies and rescue 103 illegal immigrants, in addition to more than 10 missing people, after their boat sank off the coast of the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott. The Mauritanian News Agency reported that that the Coast Guard Command in the Southern Region learned of the presence of a ship off the fish market in Nouakchott at sea, noting that 10 people who were rescued, their condition required medical assistance and they left the hospital. The boat was carrying 140 passengers, including women and children, who held the nationalities of Senegal, Gambia and Cote d'Ivoire, he said. He pointed out that the boat set off a few days ago from Gambia, passing through Senegal before arriving at the coast of Mauritania, adding that he expected the sea would throw up more victims in the coming days.
