Years of Culture Announces Fall Program for Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture

The Years of Culture, Qatars national initiative that spearheads cultural exchange and encourages dialogue rooted in shared experiences, announced its fall Qatar-Morocco 2024 program Tuesday. Through films, concerts, literary festivals, art exhibitions, and performances, the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture highlights shared traditions and celebrates unique aspects of each culture to promote respect and deepen understanding. On September 30, Qatar National Library (QNL) will host a public lecture and workshop will introduce participants to the history, anatomy, and use of the astrolabe the most important popular scientific tool for nearly a millennium. Also in QNL but on October 7, another public lecture will offer a glimpse into the history of Morocco through some of the Heritage Librarys archival and documentary holdings. October 10-12 will see the Doha Film Institute holding the Mosaics of Morocco film screenings at the Museum of Islamic Art, which will present a captivating series of contemporary Mo roccan films, showcasing four feature films from renowned and emerging Moroccan directors. The Katara Arabic Novel Festival will take place at Building 16 in the Katara Cultural Village from October 13-20, with Moroccan novelist Tuhami Al Wazzani selected as the personality of the year for this edition of the festival, which celebrates pioneers of the Arabic novel. The festival will also feature a book fair and family workshops. From November 2 to March 8, 2025, the Special Exhibitions Gallery at the Museum of Islamic Art will hold the Splendours of the Atlas: A Voyage Through Moroccos Heritage, taking visitors on a journey through the legacies of Morocco. From November 6, 2024 April 30, 2025, QNL will host 'From Material to Market: The Art of Bookmaking in Morocco heritage exhibition' commemorating the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture by exploring the craft of book arts in Morocco. November 13, QNL will also hold a public lecture which will explore the Qarawiyyin Library, the oldest working library in the world, through the heritage library's archives and external sources. The Ajyal Film Festival will run in Katara from November 16-23, commemorating the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture by featuring a series of short Moroccan films. Katara Children's Festival, November 23 25, will offer activities and entertainment across the entire Katara outdoor area. In celebration of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, the Festival will feature Moroccan music and cultural elements. From November 30, 2024 - January 7, 2025, Gallery 4 at the Museum of Islamic Art will host 'Crafting Design Futures' which will present new works by designers from Qatar and Morocco created during Design Doha Exchange 2024 Qatar Morocco. On December 4, QNL will host the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra for a special concert to celebrate the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture. This event will highlight the rich musical traditions of both Qatar and Morocco. As for the Year of Culture Qatar-Morocco 2024's fall program in Morocco, it will feature a rich array of events including: The Ajyal Film Club in the city of Tangier, from September 20-22. The Marrakesh Short Film Festival (MARRAKECHsFF) in Marrakesh, from September 27 October 2, during which Doha Film Institute will present a selection of "Made in Qatar" Short Films. October 1-6, at the El Jadida Horse Fair (The Salon du Cheval d'El Jadida), Years of Culture will partner with the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club to celebrate Qatar and Moroccos shared passion for horses within the Fairs international village activations. From October 7-17, in collaboration with Generation Amazing Foundation, the Photography Journey will see two photographers from Qatar travel across Morocco to capture its lesser-known areas amid discussions on urbanization and contemporary futures. Moreover, QNL's Qatar Reads initiative will donate 1,000 specially curated reading packages to several key community libraries in Rabat. In cooperation with the Years of Culture initiative, Rabat will host the Longines Glo bal Champions Tour, as well as the Qatar-Morocco International Volunteer Trip, organized by Qatar Museums, October 18-26. Also in Rabat, Jedariart, will see artists from both countries will travel to each others nations to create mobile art installations. In October, three Qatari artists will visit Rabat to partner with three Moroccan artists to create joint installations in Hassan II Park in Rabat. Marrakesh, on the other hand, will see the 6th edition of Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) taking place from October 22 to 24, the Qatar Africa Business Forum, November 16 - 17, the Knowledge Transfer Event, in addition to She Plays Football Tournament also happening in November.
