Washington disagrees with Israeli occupation on Gaza aggression aftermath

WASHINGTON, US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller underscored, late Monday, the United States' disagreement with the Israeli occupation over the potential role of the Palestinian Authority after a ceasefire. In a press briefing, Miller supported the potential role of the Palestinian Authority stating, "We have made quite clear we see a role for the Palestinian Authority in the governance of Gaza after this conflict." Miller addressed on the concerns the Israeli occupation has over saying that the US was encouraging the Palestinian Authority "to take steps to reform itself so not just Israelis could have faith in the Palestinian Authority, but so the Palestinian people could have faith in the Palestinian Authority governing as a non-corrupt, faithful actor in the interests of the Palestinian people." The other concern, Miller added, was that the Palestinian Authority's role was in the best interest of the Israeli occupation and its security, indicating that the Palestinian Authority would be refo rmed and acting at the best interest of both the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced in May that an optimistic dialogue had been initiated between Arab countries on Gaza's future after the war, which started on October 7, 2023.
