Update: Colonists Assault Beita Mayor and Council Member During Visit Ahead of Olive Harvest

Nablus: Israeli colonists assaulted the mayor of Beita, Mahmoud Barham, and municipal council member Jamil Dweikat on Wednesday, south of Nablus.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, a group of colonists attacked Barham and Dweikat while they were inspecting projects on mount Qamas, located east of the town. The colonists damaged the municipality-owned vehicle by destroying and smashing it, resulting in the two officials sustaining bruises. Both Barham and Dweikat were subsequently transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

This attack is a recent incident in a series of escalating tensions in the area. It comes just two weeks after Israeli occupation forces conducted a large-scale demolition operation targeting Beita’s central vegetable market, known as “Al-Hisba.” The community in Beita is preparing for the upcoming olive harvest season, a crucial time for local farmers and the town’s economy.
