RAMALLAH: As a prelude to taking over the land, Israeli colonists today erected tents on Palestinian residents' land in the village of Umm Safa, northwest of Ramallah, according to local activist, Ibrahim Abayat. The activist told WAFA that over 30 Israeli colonists, backed by the occupation forces, broke into the village of Umm Safa and set up several tents in the Jabal al-Ras area; an estimated area of about 300 meters. The land threatened with seizure by the illegal colonists belongs to the village of Umm Safa, the nearby town of Deir As-Sudan, and the 'Ajjul village. In a later development, confrontations erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinian residents near the entrance to Umm Safa village. According to local sources, forces attacked residents with stun grenades and tear gas canisters. However, no injuries were reported. The heavy firing of tear gas canisters by Israeli forces caused the fire to break out in the village's land. Source: Palestine news & Information Agency - WAFA
