UNRWA Sounds Alarm on Dire Winter Conditions for Displaced Families in Gaza

Gaza: Hundreds of thousands of displaced people face a third winter without essentials in worn-out tents in Gaza, the UN agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Monday.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, fragile shelters quickly flood, soaking people's belongings and leaving families exposed to the cold. The agency emphasized the urgent need for more shelter supplies to mitigate the harsh conditions faced by these vulnerable populations.

Tamara Alrifai, UNRWA Director of External Relations and Communications, highlighted the compounded challenges due to recent rains, which have exacerbated the precarious situation in Gaza. "Over 13,000 displaced families living in makeshift shelters or tents have now been affected by flooding," she reported on X.

Alrifai stressed the necessity of allowing more shelter materials into Gaza, underscoring the ongoing efforts of the Agency to assist affected families on the ground. The call for increased support reflects the pressing humanitarian needs as winter approaches, threatening to worsen the living conditions of those already struggling in displacement.
