Baghdad: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced today, Sunday, that more than a million displaced persons were forced to flee Rafah again to unqualified places in inhumane conditions. UNRWA said in a statement via the "X" platform that "69% of the school buildings in which displaced families were seeking shelter were subjected to (Israeli) bombing or direct damage," adding, "This blatant disregard for humanitarian law must stop, and we need a ceasefire (in Gaza) now." The Agency indicated via the "X" platform that "more than 76% of schools in Gaza need to be rebuilt or majorly rehabilitated in order to be able to operate again, according to the Global Education Cluster." The "Education Cluster" It is a joint coordination mechanism between organizations working in the field of humanitarian response in the education sector in cases of internal displacement. The group was established in 2007 through the "Inter-Agency Standing Committee", and is led by the United N ations Children's Fund "UNICEF", and the "Child Protection Network" (local) at the global level. The Israeli war has destroyed 110 schools and universities completely, and 321 schools and universities partially, while killing more than 10 thousand students, according to the government media office in Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of displaced people inside the Gaza Strip were forced to take shelter in schools in light of the ferocity of the Israeli bombing, believing that educational centers would be out of danger, but the Israeli army targeted those schools, ignoring international warnings about this. Israel continues its war despite two UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate halt, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah, take measures to prevent acts of "genocide", and improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza with full US support, leaving more than 123,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, in addition to thousands missing.
