GENEVA: UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini warned today that dissolving the UN relief agency would be catastrophic. He told reporters in Geneva following a meeting with diplomats that the time has come to find a real political solution in the aftermath of 'this cataclysm' that struck the Gaza Strip. He affirmed that dismantling the UN agency before achieving a political solution would be catastrophic. The UNRWA Commissioner-General stressed that UNRWA is the major humanitarian organization that provides aid to the Gaza Strip, which has been experiencing serious humanitarian crises. He said that more than 150 UNRWA facilities have been targeted since the beginning of the Israeli aggression. 'And we know that some have been destroyed completely.' He also demanded the opening of an independent investigation into the killing of hundreds of UNRWA staff members and the injury of thousands of others.
