UNIFIL confirms full commitment to its mission in southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, Spokesperson for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Andrea Tenenti confirmed on Saturday "UNIFIL continues to be fully committed to its mission of restoring stability in southern Lebanon and is making every effort to prevent an escalation of hostilities." "The Head of the UNIFIL Mission and Commander-in-Chief, Major General Aroldo Lazzaro, is visiting the UNIFIL area of operations to assess the current situation, and to speak with peacekeepers, to learn about their concerns," Tenenti said in a statement.

The Israeli colony of Al-Manara in the occupied Palestinian territories opposite the Lebanese town of Mays Al-Jabal was targeted with guided missiles, Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) said today.

NNA did not mention who fired the missiles.

Additionally, the Israeli occupation forces bombed the outskirts of the border town of Yaron, it said.

Yesterday, according to NNA, the villages of the western sector of southern Lebanon witnessed a tense night, which included violent bombing of the vicinity of a number of border villages and fired several flares over them.

A flight of reconnaissance aircraft and military aircraft belonging to the Israeli occupation forces was also recorded over villages and cities in southern Lebanon.

The displacement of residents in the Lebanese villages adjacent to the Blue Line has increased towards safer areas, NNA mentioned. (end) ayb.lr
