UNICEF and Bank al Etihad Collaborate to Foster Youth-Led Climate Initiatives in Jordan.

Amman: Bank al Etihad and UNICEF have renewed their partnership for the third consecutive year to support youth-led climate action and strengthen awareness of climate change across Jordan. The collaboration aims to educate 100,000 young people on effectively combating climate change through advocacy at different levels. According to Jordan News Agency, this partnership will also involve 3,000 individuals, with half being young women, in capacity-building programs. These programs are designed to enhance their skills and ability to access green jobs and sustainable employment opportunities in Jordan. During the signing ceremony, UNICEF Representative to Jordan, Philippe Duamelle, highlighted the eagerness of Jordanian youth to contribute to the country's sustainable development. He emphasized that this partnership equips a new generation of young people to become climate advocates in their local communities and contribute to global climate initiatives. Duamelle also noted that thanks to the support of Bank al Etihad, young climate advocates will have the chance to amplify their voices at significant events, such as the Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change 2024 (LCOY). This collaboration will further enable young climate leaders from Jordan to participate in global networks, including the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan this year. Nadia Al Saeed, CEO of Bank al Etihad, expressed the bank's recognition of the critical role youth play in tackling climate challenges. She stated that through the partnership with UNICEF, they are committed to helping young Jordanians develop the skills and confidence needed to drive sustainable solutions that will benefit all of Jordan. Al Saeed highlighted Jordan's significant climate challenges and emphasized that while children and young people are particularly vulnerable to climate change, they also have the potential to drive transformative change with the right support and opportunities.
