New york: A permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is essential to prevent further bloodshed, United Nations Secretary General Ant³nio Guterres said on Tuesday.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Guterres stated, “A permanent ceasefire and a credible political process are essential to prevent further bloodshed and pave the way for peace.” He affirmed the UN’s “unwavering” commitment to support peace.
He called for “an end to the hostilities in Gaza, Israel and the region now,” emphasizing the importance of protecting civilians from paying the price with their lives and futures.
“On this solemn anniversary, let us honour the memory of all the victims by working for the only path forward: a just and lasting peace, in which Israelis, Palestinians, and all the peoples of the region live side by side in security, dignity and mutual respect,” Guterres added.
He also described US President Donald Trump’s recent ceasefire proposal as “an opportunity that must be seized to bring this tragic conflict to an end.”
