UN Chief Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

New york: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres affirmed his support for the two-state solution and urged immediate measures to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying, “The ongoing massacre in Gaza must end. We need an immediate ceasefire.”

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, this statement came during Guterres’ meeting with Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming last night. He confirmed that “peace and security will be a major focus of discussions at the UN high-level meetings next week,” highlighting global crises such as wars, climate change, inequality, and technological risks.

Ahead of the General Assembly’s high-level week, Guterres called on world leaders to change course and enhance cooperation to address common challenges. “There is a sense of impunity, with each side believing they can do whatever they want,” he said, emphasizing that the United Nations is seeking, through several channels, to mobilize international cooperation to address these crises.

He noted that the suffering in Gaza has reached indescribable levels, with famine and the collapse of health services, and that the scale of the destruction and loss of life is the worst since he took office.
