Ramallah: The United Nations has declared the allocation of $110 million from its emergency fund to address recent reductions in global humanitarian aid, predominantly due to cutbacks by the United States.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, this funding aims to bolster assistance in ten of the least funded and often overlooked crises worldwide, spanning across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. A significant portion of the funds, about one-third, is designated for Sudan and Chad. Sudan is currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis, while Chad is accommodating numerous refugees escaping the conflict in Sudan.
"For countries exhausted by conflict, climate change, and economic turmoil, severe budget cuts do not mean the disappearance of humanitarian needs," stated Tom Fletcher, the organization's international humanitarian coordinator.
