The United Nations is preparing to start the second campaign to vaccinate about 640,000 children in the Gaza Strip against polio in mid-October, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said. In a press statement on Wednesday, Dujarric added that nutritional supplements will also be distributed during the polio vaccination campaign. The first polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip ended in mid-September, in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and included the vaccination of more than 560,000 Palestinian children. The Ministry of Health in Gaza, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), WHO, and the UNICEF launched at the end of August a polio vaccination campaign for children under 10 years of age.
