HEBRON: Hard-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has renewed his calls for collective punishment against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and the execution of prisoners held in Israeli jails. In remarks made from the site of a shooting incident near the Tarqumiya military checkpoint in Hebron this morning, Ben-Gvir urged for an increase in military checkpoints across the West Bank and a ban on the movement of Palestinians in its streets. Ben-Gvir's rhetoric included a renewed demand for the execution of Palestinian detainees. He stated, "Palestinian prisoners should be shot in the head and a law should be enacted to execute them, rather than freeing them." This is not the first instance of Ben-Gvir's incendiary remarks regarding Palestinian prisoners. He has repeatedly advocated for the death penalty for detainees in Israeli prisons, drawing condemnation from various human rights organizations and political figures.
