Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party confirms that the date of the meeting between Erdogan and Assad has not yet been determined

Spokesman for the Turkish Justice and Development Party, Omer Celik, confirmed that the date of the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, has not yet been determined. Celik said in a press conference held today, Monday, following a meeting of the Central Executive Council of the ruling Justice and Development Party headed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: "Work on this matter is ongoing and Assad has not yet been invited. Therefore, there is no clarity about the place and date of the meeting until this moment." Celik reiterated that Turkey continues its "firm" position regarding preserving the unity of Syrian territory. He added: "Our presence there does not target the unity of Syrian territory, but rather we are fighting against efforts to establish a terrorist entity there." He added: "Through this normalization process, we seek to make Syria safe for millions who were forced to leave their homes. We will never let down anyone who tru sted us and worked with us." Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that his country is waiting for Syrian regime leader Bashar al-Assad to take a step to improve relations with it, so that it responds "appropriately."
