The Turkish Foreign Ministry condemned, on Wednesday, the assassination of the head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" Ismail Haniyeh and described it as a despicable act. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "Once again, it is clear that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has no intention of reaching peace and that this attack aims to expand the scope of the war in Gaza to a regional level." The Turkish Foreign Ministry added: "If the international community does not move to stop Israel, our region will face much greater conflicts," stressing Turkey's continued support for the just cause of the Palestinian people. It expressed Turkey's condolences to the Palestinian people "who have offered hundreds of thousands of martyrs like Haniyeh, so that they can live in peace in their homeland, under the roof of their state." Hamas announced at dawn today that Ismail Haniyeh was martyred "as a result of a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Te hran, after participating in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president." Iranian state television also reported that Ismail Haniyeh was martyred in Tehran, explaining that an investigation into the assassination is underway and that the results will be announced soon. Haniyeh's last appearance in Tehran was during the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on Tuesday evening, and before that he held talks with Pezeshkian on political and field developments related to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, according to a statement by Hamas.
