Amman: The time-related electricity tariff, which will be imposed on some sectors as of July, would not boost electricity prices, and its average is equal to the current electricity pricing on the targeted sectors, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh. During a press conference, held on Wednesday with Minister of Government Communications and Government Spokesperson, Muhannad Mubaidin, Kharabsheh stressed that the new tariff is a regulatory measure that achieves mutual benefit for all parties and comes in line with the economic modernization vision, and that it will not include the domestic sector. He said that the expected savings from the adoption of this tariff exceeds JD2,250 million on the industrial sector if 25 percent of the electrical loads are transferred to periods of low consumption (partial peak and off-peak). Kharabsheh explained that the new tariff is divided into three time periods: Peak, partial peak (two periods), and off-peak, including electric vehicle charging, telecommunications, medium and large industries, extractive industries, and water pumping (optional). The announced tariffs for peak electricity prices from 17:00 to 23:00 are: Extractive Industrial 226 (fils/kWh), Large Industrial 130, Medium Industrial 79, Telecom 152, Vehicle/Household Charging 160, Vehicle/Public Station Charging without commission 133, and Water Pumping Optional 106. Off-peak from 05:00 to 14:00: Extractive Industrial 206 (fils/kWh), Large Industrial 110, Medium Industrial 59, Telecom 132, Vehicle/Home Charging 108, Vehicle/Public Station Charging without commission 103, Optional Water Pumping 86.
