The UN Security Council adopts a draft resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, and Hamas welcomes it

Baghdad: Last night, the UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an unconditional implementation of the prisoner exchange deal, while Hamas welcomed the resolution and expressed its readiness to cooperate with the mediators on implementing the principles of the proposal. Russia abstained from voting, while the remaining 14 member states of the Council approved the draft resolution, which welcomes the new ceasefire proposal 'which Israel has accepted, calls on Hamas to also accept it, and urges both sides to implement all its provisions without delay or conditions.' In its first phase, the proposal stipulates a ceasefire for a period of 6 weeks, accompanied by an Israeli withdrawal from densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip, and the release of some Israeli detainees in Gaza and Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. Washington's representative to the Security Council said that Israel agreed to a "comprehensive deal that is almost in line with Hamas' proposal " that paves the way for a political settlement and allows for the entry of aid into Gaza, a permanent ceasefire, and the exchange of prisoners. In turn, the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas welcomed the UN Security Council resolution supporting a ceasefire plan in Gaza, and said in a statement posted on Telegram that it is ready 'to cooperate with the mediating brothers to enter into indirect negotiations on implementing these principles that are in line with the demands of our people and our resistance.'
