Baghdad, The Sovereignty Party denied imposing US sanctions on its leader, Sheikh Khamis Al-Khanjar. The party said in a statement that it: "followed the malicious rumor campaign from some parties that do not want stability for Iraq and its people regarding the US Treasury Department imposing sanctions on the party's leader, Sheikh Khamis Al-Khanjar." The party's media department denied the issuance of any sanctions against Sheikh Al-Khanjar, and that the document circulated by some had some of its dates manipulated to market it as new. The party stressed: "The misleading and motivated campaigns aimed at undermining the party and its principles aimed at the unity and sovereignty of Iraq have become exposed to everyone, and will not deter it from continuing the path of construction and development and supporting the Iraqi government in the areas of reconstruction, reform and combating corruption."
