The President of the Republic and the Italian Ambassador discuss bilateral relations in various fields

Baghdad , The President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received, today, Saturday in Baghdad, the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Cricanti, where the existing relations between Iraq and Italy in various fields were reviewed.

During the meeting, the President pointed to the depth of the relations between the two friendly countries, and the necessity of strengthening and developing them in a way that achieves the common interests of the Iraqi and Italian peoples.

The President of the Republic's participation in the World Food Conference in Rome was also discussed, in addition to a meeting with Italian President Sergio Mattrella, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, Cindy Hensley McCain, and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, Qu Dongyu.

Rashid stressed the importance of holding the conference at the present time, as the world faces several challenges in the issue of food and water, which requires unifying international efforts to improve water management optimally and combat hunger and poverty.

For his part, the Italian ambassador stressed interest in the President of the Republic’s participation in the work of the World Food Forum, which constitutes an effective contribution to adopting more efficient and comprehensive plans to achieve global food security.

Ambassador Cricanti also renewed Italy's support for Iraq in various fields and looked forward to strengthening cooperation and relations between the two countries.
