Baghdad, The Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs in the Kurdistan Region, Pashtiawan Sadiq, called on the international community and the Iraqi government to be serious about implementing the Sinjar Agreement and the return of Yazidi citizens to their homes. Sadiq said in a speech he delivered at the Sixth Lalash Conference for Peace and Coexistence in Sinjar on behalf of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani: 'The failure of Yazidi citizens to return to their homes is the greatest harm to their present and future and a serious violation of human rights, so the international community and the Iraqi government in particular must immediately paving the way for the implementation of the agreement to normalize the situation in Sinjar so that Yazidi citizens can return to their homes.' He added that failure to address the difficulties and obstacles facing the Yazidis constitutes a threat to international peace, and the UN Security Council must find a way to prevent the suffering of the Yazidi citizens from recurring again. It is noteworthy that on October 9, 2020, the federal and regional governments had reached an agreement to normalize the situation in Sinjar, which stipulates joint management of the district in administrative, security, and service aspects. However, this agreement has not actually entered into force until now for political reasons, according to officials in the Kurdistan region. Source: National Iraqi News Agency
