Baghdad: The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed, in a phone call with US President Joe Biden yesterday evening, Friday, the strategic relations between the two countries and the developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Qatari Emiri Diwan stated in a statement: "The Emir of the State received a phone call from President Biden during which they discussed the latest developments in the strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States of America and ways to develop them, and discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, and joint mediation efforts to end the war on the Strip, in addition to regional and international developments of common interest. Earlier on Friday, Qatar, Egypt and the United States issued a statement regarding the Doha Summit aimed at bridging the gaps in negotiations between Hamas and Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and exchange prisoners. The statement indicated: "The path is now paved to achieve this result, save lives, provide relief to the people of Gaza, and calm regional tensions." On Thursday, talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire and releasing hostages held in the Gaza Strip resumed in the Qatari capital, Doha.
