Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, announced that Iran does not seek to escalate tensions in the region and is committed to international standards and laws and will always work to deter and punish any aggressor. Kanaani said in his weekly press conference, today, Monday, about the recent Iranian operations against Israel: 'The Islamic Republic of Iran is a force that creates and guarantees security, and the military operation that Iran carried out against some of the military bases of the Zionist entity is completely consistent with exercising its inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and in response to the Zionist entity's repeated attacks, especially its recent aggression against the Iranian diplomatic headquarters in Damascus,' according to the 'IRNA' website. He added: "The Iranian diplomatic apparatus and the armed forces acted in a completely professional and responsible manner in the recent operation and in response to the aggress ive action of the Zionist entity. We issued the necessary warnings before military action and acted ably after our diplomatic measures." Kanaani pointed out that, given the Security Council's inaction, and the irresponsible behavior of the United States and some European countries in creating deterrence against Israel, Iran moved by using its inherent rights within the framework of legitimate defense and in accordance with international laws.
