Tahtamouni, GGGI representative talk transport cooperation

Minister of Transport, Wissam Tahtamouni, on Wednesday discussed with country representative of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Jordan, Christophe Assicot, and sustainable transport expert Dr. Mohammad Nasser, ways to enhance joint cooperation to implement projects within the green transport concept. Tahtamouni said Jordan's government seeks to implement projects aimed at enhancing green transport in the Kingdom. The minister noted these enterprises will contribute to achieve a "qualitative" shift in the Kingdom's transport sector, which aligns with its strategy and Economic Modernization Vision, primarily economic feasibility study for the regular transport project connecting Amman and Salt, funded by the World Bank. The minister also stressed the importance of continuing cooperation with the GGGI in achieving goals by supporting operators and finding funding solutions to modernize the Kingdom's public transport fleet and replace current buses with environmentally friendly vehicles to reduce carb on emissions, improve services and enhance the industry's labor market. For his part, Assicot noted the GGGI's key achievements in the transportation sector during the past period, noting that the institute will sign an agreement with a donor to finance a project to prepare specifications and safety conditions related to electric vehicle chargers. On future plans, Assicot said work is underway to prepare a training project for maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles for 150 trainees from the Kingdom's governorates, and employ a number of job seekers in this field.
