New York - Together - Late tonight, the UN Security Council will hold a briefing session followed by closed consultations on 'the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine.' Members will hear a briefing on Gaza from the Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator in Gaza, Sigrid Kaag. Council Resolution 2720, under which Kaag was appointed, required her to submit an initial report on her work to the Security Council within 20 days, and thereafter every 90 days until September 30 of this year. Resolution 2720 called on the parties to the conflict 'to allow, facilitate and enable the immediate, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance on a large scale directly to the Palestinian civilian population throughout the Gaza Strip.' He also called on it to 'allow and facilitate the use of all available roads leading to and throughout the entire Gaza Strip, including border crossings, in order to provide humanitarian assistance.'
