Scotland, Ireland confirm their continued funding of UNRWA

London: The First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, said on Sunday that the people of the Gaza Strip are suffering so dably and dying in the midst of a humanitarian catastrophe, and they cannot be collectively punished. "To be clear, the Scottish government has not paused or withdrawn aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and there is a need to continue to ensure the delivery of aid to the people of Gaza.," Yousaf said in a post on his X account. He said, "We have previously provided as much as we can within our financial constraints. We will always seek to do more where we can, and we urge others to continue to provide aid to the people of Gaza," Yousaf added. Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin also announced yesterday that Ireland does not intend to stop funding the "vital work" being carried out by UNRWA in the Gaza Strip. In a post on his X account, Martin said that his country provided pound 18 million to UNRWA last year and will continue to support th e agency this year, pointing out that UNRWA provides life-saving assistance to 2.3 million people, where more than 100 of its employees have been killed in the past 4 months.
