Amman: Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Wednesday discussed over the phone efforts to end the Gaza war. Safadi and Blinken discussed Egypt, the US and Qatar's negotiations to materialise a deal to exchange prisoners and end the Israeli war on Gaza. The talks focused on allowing aid into Gaza and a road map for a Mideast peace which Safadi said must be through ending the occupation in the Palestinian Territories and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the June 4, 1967 lines. Safadi warned of the Israeli "illegal" measures in the occupied West Bank, which undermine prospects for the two-state solution and target the Palestinian Authority (PA). He urged further action to prevent spillover and embroil Lebanon in the hostilities, adding that ending the Israeli war in Gaza "is the main step to protect the region from escalation."
