Doha: Qatar University hosted a workshop on the Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) initiative, aimed at bringing about a qualitative shift in various means of transportation by creating a seamless multi-modal transportation platform for users across the country. In this context Director of QU's Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre, Dr. Shimaa Ali Al Quradaghi, expressed excitement about the ongoing efforts, stating, "This workshop represents a significant step in achieving Qatar's vision for a smart, integrated, and sustainable transport system. The MaaS initiative holds outstanding promise for transforming mobility in Qatar by merging different transportation modes into a seamless, user-friendly, and efficient service. We are committed to working with our partners to refine these concepts and implement solutions that will serve the entire community." MaaS is an effective and potentially transformative system for Qatars mobility ecosystem, offering a user-centric approach to transportation that enhances sustai nability, accessibility and efficiency, she added. The Maas project at QU aims to integrate different modes of transportation such as bicycles, cars, shared transportation services and taxis into a unified system, seeking to enhance the flexibility and efficiency of urban transportation, reduce reliance on private cars, and support sustainable urban growth in Qatar, especially during major events and occasions. It is worth noting that the workshop organized by the university brought together 35 representatives from local and international institutions and businesses, such as QU's Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre, University of Eugene from Greece, Ooredoo Telecom, and the Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC). The workshop also witnessed the participation of many government entities such as the Ministry of Transport, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Muheel Engineering Consultancy Compan y, and several academic departments from QU.
