Doha: The representation office of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Yemen has launched a new health project to provide comprehensive health care services for the most vulnerable groups and enhance access to maternal and neonatal health services at several hospitals of Al-Hudaydah, Taiz, and Sanaa. The $926,700 project is co-funded by QRCS and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). In a statement on Wednesday, QRCS highlighted that the project focuses on isolated areas with alarming health conditions due to lack of medical resources, growing numbers of internally displaced people (IDPs), and limited access for most girls and women to basic reproductive health services in the districts of Al-Shamaytain, Al-Jarahi, Bani Al-Harith, Manakha, and Al-Haymah Al-Dakhliyya. The statement added that the project activities include optimizing the operational capacity in 6 medical facilities, namely Khalifa General Hospital, Al-Wahda Hospital in Taiz, surgical hospital in Hodeidah, Al-Wahda and Al-Manar hospital sæ Bait Hanthal medical complex, in addition to meeting the essential needs for those medical facilities including medical supplies and consumables, operational expenses, and financial incentives for medical and administrative staff for one year. It highlighted that the project has, heretofore, provided 38,741 free medical services as part of a strategic partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This initiative aims to enhance reproductive health services in Yemen, strengthen the capacity of the healthcare system and local communities to withstand and achieve self-reliance in the face of one of the most complex humanitarian crises, as described by the United Nations. It follows a dual humanitarian approach combining immediate humanitarian interventions with long-term development planning. Source: Qatar News Agency
