Doha: QatarDebate is participating in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York (NY), from 16-18 April 2024. An annual initiative by the President of ECOSOC, the forum serves as a platform for economic dialogue engaging young leaders from around the world together with policymakers and experts from political and apolitical backgrounds to discuss solutions to the challenges affecting youth well-being. It also serves as a unique space for young people to share their vision and actions as well as provide an opportunity to advance youth solutions. HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani took part in QatarDebate's dialogue session on natural gas being key to a transition towards green energy, during which Her Excellency praised QatarDebate's role in enriching dialogue and empowering the youth, highlighted the significance of the sessions topic, and noted the State of Qatar' s efforts in confronting climate change. Her Excellency added that the youth chose peace as the session's main focus, given that the world has become a small global village with open horizons. In turn, Director of Programs at QatarDebate Abdulrahman Al Subaie stressed the importance of this dialogue session in revitalizing dialogue and yielding implementable and innovative ideas, highlighting the importance of consolidating cognitive awareness among young people to push them towards innovation and excellence. Al Subaie added that without reaching a common understanding and finding precise and well-thought solutions, it would not be possible to hold an enriched and open dialogue nor empower minds. The session aimed to highlight the vital role of natural gas in serving as a bridge to transition from reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, underscore the role of the youth in intergovernmental consultations regarding the Summit of The Future, facilitate a discussion to address global challenges and accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
