In collaboration with Qatar National Library's Qatar Reads, QatarDebate held a panel discussion titled "Palestine's Urban Identity: People and Architecture" at M7, Qatars epicenter for innovation and entrepreneurship in fashion, design and technology. The session highlighted how Palestinians have utilized urban design and architectural strategies as tools of resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges. The session brought together writer and academic Dr. Ali Abdulraouf Ismail, associate professor in the sociology and anthropology program at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies Dr. Ismail Nashif, Palestinian journalist Shada Salhab, and moderated by researcher at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies Najla Al Jaber. It discussed the deep-rooted connection between the Palestinian people and their land, exploring its various dimensions, from its urban development to its architecture. It explored the role of urban planning and architecture in shaping Palestinian identity. It also examined how t hese same tools have been used in Israel's urban planning as mechanisms of control and occupation. The participants stressed the importance of raising awareness and its role in creating transformation and the challenges facing the Palestinian people, emphasizing the importance of documenting events in Gaza and other Palestinian cities. In a statement today, Director of Qatar National Library's Qatar Reads Fatima Al Malki said that they were honored to continue cooperating with QatarDebate. There is a starting point with the center and collaborative visions that bring them together in various upcoming events, which began with the novel 'Hayy Ibn Yaqdhan', she added.
