Doha: The State of Qatar hosted the 58th meeting of the Technical Council of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO). HE Chairperson of the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Mohammed Al Musallam chaired the meeting which was attended by representatives of the member states, the President of the GSO and a GCC General Secretariat representative. Inaugurating the meeting, HE Al Musallam welcomed the participants and extended thanks to HE former GSO President Saud bin Nasser Al Khusaibi for his cooperation with all member states during his work for two consecutive sessions, hailing his tenure as full of important achievements. He also congratulated HE Eng. Nawaf Ibrahim Al Mana on assuming the GSO presidency, wishing him success. HE Al Musallam said the Technical Council meeting followed up on the decisions of the 57th Technical Council meeting in Doha in January and reviewed two memoranda on standardization. The memoranda included the approval of 519 GCC standard s and the fast-track adoption of 19 draft GCC standards. He added that the meeting reviewed the draft GSO Technical Regulations on hazards that electrical equipment may present and electromagnetic compatibility. The meeting also discussed a memorandum on the outcomes of a workshop on obstacles to intra-trade among member states and another on the outcomes of the fourth meeting of the Gulf Laboratory Committee. He added that the meeting concluded with discussions of developments in the implementation of the GSO's strategic plan for the period 2021-2025, the developments of the GCC Accreditation Center and the GSO's final statement for the fiscal year 2023.
