Qatar affirms its role in facilitating US-Iran talks

Qatar is playing a role in facilitating talks between the US and Iran on releasing some prisoners and establishing a banking channel addressing some matters, Minster of State at Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Al-Khulaifi said Friday.

Qatar believes in the necessity of settling differences peacefully and diplomatically, the Ministry's "X" account carried Al-Khalifa's statement.

He hoped that talks would lead to greater understandings that include the return to the nuclear deal.

He voiced optimism that this move will be followed by other steps of rapprochement, indicating that Qatar would spare no effort to bring the views of the two parties closer.

Al-Khulaifi referred to Qatar's keenness to set some realistic regulations and positive initiatives for the two parties to reach consensus and achieve the desired goals of this agreement.

He further pointed to intensive visits paid by some Qatari officials to Washington and Tehran with the aim of conveying these messages and bringing the two parties' views closer.

The last deal made between Iran and the US shows their confidence in Qatar as a neutral mediator in resolving international disputes peacefully, he said.

Meanwhile, the US announced Thursday the true news that five Americas detained in Iran were released.
