RAMALLAH: President Mahmoud Abbas Thursday renewed his call for immediate ceasefire and the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Abbas made his call during a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot at the presidential compound in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah in the presence of Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Abbas discussed with the top French diplomat the latest developments in the Palestinian arena, including the genocidal aggression on, the killings and starvation of Palestinians, land grab, infringements upon the holy sites, and ongoing terrorist attacks by Israeli colonists and occupation forces in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He renewed his call for the implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2735, which includes an immediate, full and complete ceasefire, enabling the State of Palestine to fully shoulder its responsibilities in the Strip, the reconstruction of the Strip and the implementation of United Nations resolutions, most notably the International Court of Justice resolution on the Palestinian question. He cautioned against Israel's decision banning the United Nations Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) from operating inside Israel and occupied Palestine (the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem). He voiced his appreciation of the European positions in support of the UN resolutions, international law and the two-state solution while pointing out that the recognition by European states of the Palestinian state and support of Palestine's bid for a full UN membership is a natural right of the Palestinian people, whose realization would contribute to salvaging any remaining hope to the possibility of halting the spiral of violence and ending the Israeli occupation of the territories of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
